Ian Livesey captured this candid portrait of Sir David Jason, one of Britain’s most iconic actors, standing on the beach. It was taken during “All the King’s Men,” a one-off period drama broadcast on BBC One on 14 November 1994, in which David Jason headlined alongside Maggie Smith. Based on a true story, the drama follows a group of men from the Royal Family’s Sandringham estate who enlist together at the outbreak of World War One, led by estate manager Frank Beck, played by Jason — a platoon that went over Sulva Plain in Gallipoli on 12 August 1915 and was never seen again. Written by Alma Cullen and directed by Julian Jarrold, the cast also included Patrick Malahide, Phyllis Logan, David Troughton, and a young Tom Burke as Private Chad Batterbee.
